Enough For Me
Monday afternoon after pigging out eating lunch, I gathered up the binoculars and zoomer and headed in the woods. I've been concerned about the eagles as I am not hearing as much chatting as last year. Afraid that they abandoned the nest because of a lot of activity (construction) in the immediate area, I just had to see for myself.
I've now found a great spot to sit...a spot in the woods beneath the trees, yet not on the ground. A couple of boulders (vines and all) seem to fit my backside perfectly. Although I am still about 100 yards away from the nest, the binoculars bring me up close.
From my spot, looking slightly to the right, I can see our house. Of course, once the leaves are out, it will totally be obscured.
Looking to my left the other side of the ridge holds a beautiful view. Then,
using the binoculars and scanning the perimeter of the nest, I didn't see many fresh sprigs of pine. It was quiet. Too quiet.
There was no alert given as I walked through the woods. No chirping. No chatting. Knowing that the eagles can see for miles, that in itself bothered me. Disappointed with the silence, I sat patiently, at first, waiting. Then after about 40 minutes, I stood to take a pic in the direction of the nest with zoomer before I headed home.
Discovering it when I imported the pic, I was elated!!
I know it isn't much...maybe not for you. But it is enough for me!

Look towards the center of this pic. Do you see a white head with a yellow beak?
Relying heavily on materials Kate from DEEP sent me, these reports and findings have become regular reading for me. After all, I accepted the job...:)
Did you know there's the difference in posture between sitting on eggs and brooding chicks? I never did. Yet, there is a difference...a big difference. Judging by the posture of the eagle, it is sitting on an egg which should be hatching soon, I'm guessing.

Interesting that they have two different postures for sitting on eggs and brooding chicks.
Now that you've spotted the nest, you might be lucky follow the little ones, as they start to learn to fly!
I truly hope all will be well this year. What an adventurous, caring soul you are! :)
