Minor Surgery
Way back in 1802 when the Pres and I were in our early years, on his days off from the Fire Department, we would do and go places together. Although he's not fond of fairs, we went to a fair and wandered around the crafts to get a few ideas.
I did tell you that I have my own work bench with a belt sander, scroll saw and other handy gadgets, right? Well, we made a wooden dragonfly fashioned after one we saw at the fair. Actually, we made more than one...probably about ten in all because family and friends wanted one once they saw ours...:)
Needless to say, our original has been with us a long, long time and was in need of repair.
The surgeon was ready. Knowing that surgery was on his agenda, the Pres had stashed a few pieces of cedar from the trees that had fallen on our property. It was a match made in Heaven!
Removing the screws from her old rusty tin wings was the first step.
Her arms, made from wooden dowels, holding her watering can and rusty trowel came off next.
Her head (a wooden egg painted with a cute face) and feet (also attached with dowels) were also removed to reveal her tired, well-worn, broken cedar body...about 25 years old.
We fixed her up, put her back on her metal dowel and goes into the ground and she was as good as new, sporting her little metal bonnet!
Then we had a great idea.
As long as we had all the stuff out, why not make another?
