Still Enamored
A real natural here, the Eastern Towhee is still one of my long time favorites.
First learning of them while I lived in Virginia, I remember when I described this handsome bird to couple of real birders I met at the gym.
Unlike me, who had just begin delving into the world of birds after I retired, Marshal and Larry were pros. Inviting me to a meeting at the Roanoke Bird Club, I was hooked!
They taught me what to listen for to identify the Towhees.
Learning a lot about birds from Marshall and Larry, they also introduced me to a gentleman from Audubon who participated in the annual migration/hawk count at Harvey's Knob, an overlook on the Blue Ridge in VA. It was during that migration and count where I began my love affair with buetos and accipiters.
