Seeds of Friendship
A few weeks ago a high school classmate told me about a plant she had...a cactus. So I Googled it and found this among a myriad of other information.
Desert Rose Plant Care Tips
Origin: East Africa
Height: 3 ft (90 cm); desert rose bonsai grows to 1 ft (30 cm)
Light: Direct sunlight
Water: Aim to keep the medium only lightly moist -- this plant won't tolerate overwatering.
Humidity: Average humidity.
Temperature: Average room temperatures 60-75°F, 16-24°C
Soil: Fast-draining mix, such as cactus potting mix. Or, mix equal parts peat moss and sharp sand.
Fertilizer: Feed every 2 weeks spring through fall with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted by half.
Propagation: Seeds
Her Desert Rose Cactus had flowers which went to seed so I asked her to send me one if she had a spare.
Well, although you don't know her, I do and it was no surprise when her card arrived in the mail.
Reading the card, I knew she hadn't changed at all.
So, after sowing the seeds of friendship in a heavy clay pot and some cactus potting mix, I wait for signs of life. She was always full of life and the center of everything. Pretty, smart and popular, she was, in my book, then envy of everyone. She had it all.
Hoping the seeds germinate to join the other houseplants, the Desert Rose would fit in nicely I think, don't you?
Besides I promised my friend that I would think of her if the seeds grew...LOL!
Of course, I also told her that I had quite the green thumb since some of my plants are fifteen years old.
