"Out This Way...
everyone uses them." That's what I was told anyway.
Last Friday, OS (other son) stopped by to visit the Pres and fill us in on what he's been doing and we filled him in on the Pres. Then the subject of Eagles came up.
Telling OS that I had not walked in to see the Eagles nest since mid- JANUARY because of all the snow, he immediately said, "Buy snowshoes! Everyone uses them out this way!"
Quite honestly, his response, combined with the suggestion of the Pres that I not walk in to avoid re-injuring myself, made me think about it let alone that a few of my bloggers had also suggested it. Hence, that I do I began the search.
Here's what I am up against out this way if I want to walk in to see what is going on with the Eagles.
You do see the four foot high fence in the pix above, right? Now have an idea of how long it will take to melt this much snow, right because I don't have a clue! And, needless to say, there is no short way to get in to the edge of the clearing as I go around the perimeter of our property to get there. Looking at the photo below, if you crouch down and look through the trees about 1/4 of a mile, that's where I sit, right at the edge of the clearing...
yet, as "the Eagle flies," it isn't far. The reason I say that is: Friday (3/6/15) and then again Tuesday (3/10/15) an adult sailed right over the yard, clasping something in it's talons, heading straight toward the nest. It could have either been bringing food back to the mate sitting on eggs OR making additions to the nest. So, now fast forward through the shopping...
Since I am a "beginner" and doubt that I will take up mountain climbing at this age, I am more than satisfied with my...."entry level snowshoes, with their lightweight durable aluminum frame and synthetic webbing for great flotation."
Did you know that you can burn up to 600 calories in one hour snowshoeing?
Why haven't I done this sooner???

Good Fences
Oh, one more thing. A fellow Eagle nest observer has a two mile trek in so mine is insignificant in comparison out this way.
