The Nature of Things
Stepping out onto the deck in the pre-dawn hours and inhaling deeply, I took my usual spot after brushing the snow off the chair. Planning on using the snow mound on the upper deck as a footrest, I carefully placed the chair close to the house and sat. It was 3 degrees that morning with a brisk wind making it -15 according to the local news channel.
You see, taking the opportunity to just sit quietly, breathe and "take it all in," seemed to be just what I needed. It's been a rather crazy year for me and now I needed to "hear myself think". It was my turn. In the dark, the deck became my respite. It was time for ME and I chose to do what I find relaxing...listening to a conversation now known as "Breakfast With The Eagles".
The pair has been having regular early morning conversations throughout the month of December, and hearing them all month was a wonderful birthday gift. Now, with January 2018 right around the corner, as I listened, I thought of the upcoming month...participating in an Eagle Presentation, National Bald Eagle Survey, followed by two other Eagle Presentations, one of which is to children under 12, which I am really looking forward to.
It was when I could no longer feel my fingertips that I went in. I had been outside in the cold for an hour. Yet once inside, listening to what I recorded made me forget about the burning in my fingers, nose and toes, let alone what was going through my mind.
