Watching For Predators

Learning just recently that raptors, when in flight look over their shoulder for in case they are being pursued by predators, I thought that this fact would be something to watch for when I see them soaring.

Now back to hawk watching.

Uh-oh, although inside my DR (door tightly closed because it's Winter, remember?), he spotted me just by looking over his shoulder.

Letting him go back to what he was meant to do, I retracted the camera lens and powered it off.  He is a hunter.  I am not a predator.

just seeing, saying, and sharing...

Watching For Predators

with you and those at

I'm not sure what a raptor is. I could google it, but I'd rather ask you to tell me more.

Great shots!

Well he certainly has you misunderstood if he thinks you are a predator. I'm always impressed by how patiently they can wait and watch

I am using my camera from inside these days too. I love these series of bird shots. I never seem to have my camera when we spot them.
I'll bet he (or, possibly she, as the female Cooper's Hawk looks more bulky than the male) is on the alert for any passing bird-- or maybe, just enjoying the warmth of the sun and digesting her last meal!

Pretty!! But to have this wonderful sighting just outside my door I'd be so elated!!!

Thanks so much for sharing this with us birders this week, at I'd Rather B Birdin'.

Nice shots! We have quite a few red-tailed hawks and red-shouldered hawks around here. They don't seem to afraid of humans as long as they are far enough up in a tree. Still, it isn't easy to get a good pic.

Always thrilling to see a Hawk!
Have a wonderful day!
So much fun watching them and getting some photos! I know this was a thrill...I had my own yesterday when I got some photos of one hunting! They usually fly off if you stop the car, but this time I lucked out. :-)

Enjoyed your photos. Been taking my share of photos from inside the door as well because of cold weather. Hopefully, it warms up soon for both of us.
I enjoyed all of these photographs, thank you.

All the best Jan
