Timberrrrrrr

Inhaling deeply as I got out of my car, the smell of fresh pine filled the air.  Why was it so strong at this time of the morning, I wondered.   Discovering that the promised tree-work had begun, I wondered just what they would do with the giant pine now lying on the ground.  Walking over to the piles of chipped wood, I stood next to them taking it all in....the sight, the aroma and it was wonderful!

Did you know that certain mulches can produce something called artillery fungus (aka shotgun fungus)?

We discovered a few years ago that certain mulches can produce it.   The fungus is a wood decay fungus that develops on moist wood mulch that can shoot spores up to 20 feet away.  Yes, we experienced it by buying wood mulch by the trailer load from our local supplier.  Since then, we ONLY use fresh cedar mulch since it has been shown to be least likely to labor the fungus.

seeing, saying, sharing...

Ewww, so is this fungus dangerous? I am allergic to mold, fungus, and fall leaves. So it would probably kill me. I will never buy mulch, that's for sure!
